Joe has been fantastic to work with as my lead architect on the conversion of farm buildings to a combination of holiday lets and residential houses. He’s helped me design beautiful and functional spaces, including a specialist link connecting a residential house to an ex-agricultural building. Joe is not only a brilliant designer with an incredible eye for space and layout, but he’s also a great listener who takes on board all my ideas. He’s been instrumental in managing the process between planners, contractors, and regulatory bodies. I highly recommend Joe for any architectural project!

I worked with Joe in early 2020 to redevelop a number of outbuildings at my property that were derelict and in need of rebuilding and in parts refurbishment. The existing buildings were the subject of formal grade II listing and the land was subject to Duchy of Cornwall restrictions. We successfully achieved planning permission for three buildings in December 2020 and the first of these has just been completed in August. The scheme was exceptional and received much admiration from not only Cornwall Council planning dept, but also the Duchy of Cornwall’s London based architects who were required to comment on it. It was a pleasure working with Joe and the first building which is a stunning new small house designed with family use and also holiday letting in mind has been a huge success going 5 * reviews from all who have stayed in it. I am more than happy to recommend Joe and am very grateful to him for creating my new surroundings!

Emily and Joe have designed and managed a complete makeover for our barn which had been sadly neglected by the previous owners. The design met our brief completely and we now have a home to be proud of and we would never have had the imagination to use the colour schemes and layout that Emily and Joe suggested. They managed the whole project from design, employing contractors, ordering and unpacking furniture and dressing each room beautifully.

Emily and Joe produced a concept design for our barn extension. I needed some initial direction and ideas for both the layout design and the interior look for the scheme. Their presentation exceeded all expectation, they came up with some inspired ideas I’d never have thought of myself . Working with Emily and Joe at Coal was so easy and enjoyable.
Extremely approachable, accommodating, and helpful (as we live 300 miles away!)...they are full of fresh ideas and creativity. Using colour texture and pattern to bring a wonderful sense of calm and comfort to the rooms.

I'd like to give my highest praise to Coal Cornwall. Emily and Joe transformed our holiday cottage from drab to fab in a few short months. We started the process knowing that we wanted a major over haul of our holiday home's look and feel, but not knowing what kind of design we wanted. They took the time to get to know us and understand our style. We really enjoyed the whole process, it felt like a collaborative experience and we will definitely use Coal in the future.
