Four and a half years ago I started an amazing renovation project on a Grade II listed timber framed farmhouse, which at the time was suffering from neglect and needed major structural repairs. Around two years ago I contacted Paul from English Oak Frames Ltd to discuss the possibility of constructing an oak-framed garden room.
Paul is inspirational and extremely experienced; he listened carefully to my requirements and then quickly set to work designing the most beautiful self-supporting structural garden room, which would cause no further impairment to the existing building, as he knew that this would be an important factor in gaining planning permission for a 400 yr old property.
We were thrilled when the garden room was approved by planners; the design was contemporary with a traditional twist that complimented the original house, whilst remaining sympathetic to the historic building. The build was completed to the highest specification and outstanding quality by Paul and his team of exceptional qualified craftsmen specializing in oak framed buildings.
Since then, Paul has designed and completed three further projects for us, including a spectacular breakfast/dining room which is superb for entertaining, a stunning porch which has made the entrance to the farmhouse hugely inviting, and a double-bay carport with workshops, log stores and a gym.
With Paul’s help and expertise we have transformed our dilapidated farmhouse into a luxury property, and Paul’s designs have enhanced our now beautiful home and greatly added to its value.
Paul is extremely knowledgeable in the design, planning and build industry, he pays extraordinary attention to detail and is passionate about his work; it is most important to Paul that the end product is of a high standard, to his customers’ satisfaction and meets initial and any further requirements. He does not lose sight of this and strives to meet this at all times.
Paul is personable, fair and trustworthy and we have maintained an excellent working relationship throughout, being kept informed at all times with constant updates on progress and regular contact. Despite problems with oak supply due to Brexit, Paul Hicks and his team still performed to programme. Having undertaken a trial assembly of the main frame elements in the workshop, the oak frame for our barn was then raised in a day and is really spectacular. Paul is very helpful and always puts himself out to explain things in way that anyone can understand.
