Stephen, Lucas and the team have done an incredible job totally renovating our entire house. The build has been done to a high standard and the finish is perfect - nothing was a problem or too much for them. When they came up against obstacles they offered really pragmatic solutions and ideas along the way.
We lived in the house the whole time with a toddler and added a newborn into mix halfway through, it would have been easier for them if we’d have moved out but everyone was so considerate and genuinely really great people that you’d want to share your house with for 8 months. They kept the site really tidy, kept on schedule and entertained my toddler when she decided she wanted to “help”.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will be using them again in the future.

HQDB have completed two projects for us in the last 5 years on two separate properties and discussions are underway regarding a third.

On each occasion we've found Peter and Stephen's approach with design and planning to be flawless, addressing issues such as planning permission, party wall act, structural calcs, permitted development rights and build over certification amongst others.

Quotes have always been competitive, reasonable and with a transparent level of detail enabling us to monitor and manage expense. Invoicing has always been planned and accurate to the penny with variations agreed prior to commencement.

Scope delivered by HQDB has included: loft conversion, kitchen extensions, structural steelworks, ground works, roofing, flooring, doors and windows, carpentry, plumbing, electrics, plastering, rendering and landscaping. There is an incredible depth and breadth of skills within Stephen and Lucas' team.

Needless to say, as repeat customers, we are satisfied with the outcome of both projects and would recommend HQDB for your home improvement project. The quality of their workmanship is exemplary and everyone we've had complete work for us is personable and professional.

We had HQDB Builders recommended to us by a local plumber. We met with Steve and told him our vision. He was very helpful and offered some great advice. Spending a large amount of money on a build is quite daunting and choosing a builder that you don’t know even more so. Steve offered a very professional service from start to finish. We had regular chats and he kept us in the loop the whole time. Steve sent us all the details, what was included and what was not, this included all the stage payments that needed to be made and when. Steve his business partner Lucas and his team couldn’t have been more helpful and professional. I would highly recommend them.

We have been kept informed and updated; inevitable problems and set-backs have been approached constructively and with workable solutions; costs have been properly managed and the finished build is outstanding. HQDB sent me a letter through the post expressing interest in undertaking a new build in accordance with my approved plans. Fast forward 6 months and following amendments of my plans as suggested by HQDB to bring down build costs, Stephen from HQDB sent me an e-mail that they were no longer interested in undertaking the build due to their ‘apprehensions’. My follow up emails, phone calls and text messages to find out more about their apprehensions were ignored. A huge waste of time and now I have to start the whole process again of searching for a build team with plans that were tailored to HQDB’s suggestions. Unreliable and unprofessional.

To be clear, I have no problems with HQDB deciding that the project is not for them but it’s the manner in which they ignored my phone calls, emails and text messages for me wanting to understand more about their apprehensions. If the project is too large or complex for them to undertake just be open with me about it rather than leaving me in the dark, I’d understand and would not feel the need to leave a negative review. Even 2 days prior to their e-mail we were in clear positive discussions of finalising the scope of work, so I’m still not sure what their sudden apprehensions are or why.

It should also be noted that I have tenants currently in-situ at the property and Stephen had confirmed to me a week prior to pulling out of the project that it would be a good idea to give them notice to leave the property. This gave me even more reassurance that HQDB were fully onboard with the build project.

Throughout the project Stephen and his team were excellent. They kept to schedule and delivered the project on budget. We were delighted with the finished result.
Stephen was great at suggesting ideas and addressed any problems pragmatically.
Stephen is a great communicator and always gave us plenty of advanced notice when key decisions were approaching - which was hugely appreciated given we are a busy household with two small children .
