Incompetent and unethical. Avoid at all costs!
I had a burst pipe flood, amounting to the volume of a large swimming pool, that soaked into my floors and walls (no escape of water was evident) - it was my misfortune that Gary at Godden Allen Lawn was recommended to me as a surveyor. He ignored all requests to install professional dehumidifiers, despite repeated requests inc from the loss adjustors who said they needed to go in as priority, and when I later challenged him over why he did this, he said that dehumidifiers are not needed to aid the drying out of a flooded flat. He then muddied the waters by claiming that the damp in the walls was down to rising damp - despite him not attempting to dry out the flood water and there being no evidence of rising damp beforehand - Gary in fact told me on first meeting me that he believed every claimant for insurance are liars - which made the insurance company step back.
Despite the loss adjustors saying the flood was so awful it required professional oversight to dry and repair, they agreed to Gary overseeing this and then nothing got done due to Gary never turning up to do anything and just making matters worse. The property was then left untouched for months during which time it should have been thoroughly dried and repaired. When I complained to the company I was met with a boys club mentality that no one did anything wrong and they refused to take any responsibility. I followed their complaint procedure by escalating to CEDR - they said that due to Godden Allen Lawn claiming a technicality that I hadn't directly contracted them (it went through the building management and loss adjusters) they could wash their hands and continue to not take any responsibility or engage. CEDR said the only way I could claim justice, due to this technicality of no contract, was to seek private legal compensation - something I've still been looking at.
This was the worst time of my life and instead of professionals sorting it out for me as it was supposed to be, the stress amounted to make me ill and my life has been drastically affected due to Godden Allen Lawn's involvement. It's taken me this long to even be in a state of mind that I can write about it.
They are despicable for being so incompetent, in not only not doing their jobs but they didn't even have the decency to turn down the job so that another company could be appointed - they accepted the role then just abandoned the situation while we were thinking "professionals" were dealing with this awful mess that we were not accustomed to being in. For them to then take zero responsibility and avoid any accountability shows just how completely unethical they are. They need closing down, and unfortunately instead of being able to wash my hands of them, their name continues to be bile in my mouth while the situation drags on as I look into legal options.
