Ansells did our rear extension in 2023 and we’ve been so happy with the work. The whole team are friendly, reliable, tidy and the work and craftsmanship has been done to a very high standard. We would 100% recommend Ansells of Sussex to anyone considering building work!

Great company and great bunch of guys Rhys employs. They have transformed 3 spaces used as walkthroughs to a delightful open plan functional modern kitchen, living, dining and chill out area.
Very professional in every aspect of their works and lovely guys. Pleasant yet professional and always left the site tidy and clean when they left for the day.
Of course there were unforeseen items that cropped us, as there always is when you can’t see beyond existing bricks and mortar…but Rhys kept us fully informed at every stage of the project. Advising what was needed, how they could rectify anything that came up and how much it would cost.
We asked for additional works and guys were happy to help often advising on what would be best and carrying it forward.
We are so pleased with all of the work and will definitely be recommending them and will be using Ansells of Sussex, Rhys and his team again for any future projects.
We can’t help but just love our new living space so thank you, thank you, thank you to all of Rhys, Nigel and his team .

We used Ansells of Sussex to convert our garage into a larger utility room and play room. Rhys was extremely helpful with planning and suggesting ideas. All the builders were professional, tidy and polite and the finished result is of the highest quality. We would 100% recommend Ansells of Sussex for any building needs.

Ansells of Sussex have carried out many large projects on our 1910 house; Re-pointing the front elevation, replacing soffit and fascia boards, hand making and replacing corbels, replacing bedroom and ground floor bay windows, re-plastering porch and renewing all guttering. All of these have been carried out to the highest standard quickly and efficiently, with clear communication as to schedules and disruptions. The house was cleaned after each day and any problems that an old property will inevitably throw at you were dealt with quietly and without fuss. We constantly phoned them with questions and always got a clear answer, we were told exactly what was going on at every step. We will certainly use Ansells for any future projects without any hesitation whatsoever.

We have used Ansells a couple of times now and have been extremely happy with the work. They did our kitchen for us, making it open plan which was a big job. From concept to design Rhys was brilliant. The team did such a great job for us, were very clean and great to deal with. They then did our extension which we were equally happy with. The prices quoted were very fair, the quality of the work was great and they did everything to specification and building regs. I'm extremely surprised by the negative comments as I've known them to be nothing but professional. I can't recommend these guys enough!!

We chose Ansells Of Sussex to carry out a major re-modelling of our home as they had been recommended by our Architect. The job was a fixed price tender based on plans and a specification provided by the Architect.
Throughout the job Ansells complained about the Architect and the specifications he had given them in the tender pack. My wife and I found this approach to be very un-professional as he was the person who had given them a glowing endorsement, which helped secure them the job in the first place!
Soon after work began, we realised that Ansells Of Sussex were (amongst other things) taking massive short cuts in the work that they were doing and blatantly ignoring the specification and British Standards.
Ansells failed to fit smoke detectors in accordance with Building Regulations and as clearly specified by the Architect in the tender. Thankfully the Building Inspector noticed this during one of his visits and insisted they were fitted, otherwise the consequences could have been potentially fatal.
Ansells Of Sussex ignored a number of safety warnings and conditions in the tender pack, which resulted in their workforce (and us) being exposed to very dangerous types of Asbestos. They failed to stop work and investigate when the Asbestos was first exposed and carried on working until our Structural Engineer noticed it and raised the alarm.
Ansells have also claimed that they are not bound by the terms of the tender, despite me stating in my letter of appointment that I accepted their quotation in accordance with the specifications of the Philips tender. This clearly is an attempt at ‘bait and switch’ whereby Ansells are trying to get away with offering substantially inferior terms than those that were contained in the tender.
When we asked about putting right some of their shoddy workmanship they wrote saying ‘you have moved back into the house and have effectively accepted the works and ended our contract’ which we find scandalous.
Fast forward to the end of the job and you can imagine utter our shock and horror when Ansells Of Sussex presented us with an unexpected demand for an extra £32,364.45, especially as this was a fixed price tender and we had not been notified of, or agreed to these extra charges.
On closer inspection, we realised that Ansells had charged us three times for the same piece of work, two times for another piece of work and had charged us multiple times for items that were clearly included in the Architects specification.
As if to add insult to injury Ansells have demanded £7,077.67 for contaminated materials that had to be destroyed when the Asbestos was removed, when in fact this loss was a direct consequence of them ignoring the conditions and warnings in the tender to work safely and to stop work if they suspected that Asbestos may be present.
We can’t help but wonder if this repeated over charging is due to incompetence or something more sinister? On querying, we were told by Ansells in no uncertain terms that they would withhold our certificate of completion until we had paid them. This makes us feel like we are being held to ransom, with no option but to pay them however much they demand.

Ansells built us an extension and fitted a kitchen.
They tiled over the overflow from our hot water tank, so that when it overflows, water comes through our ceiling.
When they fitted the kitchen they connected three ovens to one power supply, overloading the fuse. So that if we have all the ovens on at the same time the power goes off.
We’ve spent thousands of pounds paying professional tradespeople to put their work right. I couldn’t recommend them to anyone.

The Ansells of Sussex team created a complex and modern single story extension to our house, face lifted the cladding/rendering and laid 150 sqm of patio. The service and ideas from Rhys exceeded my expectations and the quality and attention to detail have given us the house of our dreams. Rhys has an excellent team supporting him and picks the best contractors to make sure quality comes first.
