Steve Mardall of Ascent Architecture responded quickly to our first call for guidance on a derelict property. In a stage by stage process Ascent Architecture guided us, curbed our impetuous decisions, put us in touch with builders, revised some plans when we, not knowing what we didn't know, went ahead with a stage we weren't ready for and encouraged us onwards. Always swift to respond to emails, Ascent sorted planning rapidly. As we come close to completion, we thank Ascent Architecture and look forward to seeing the finished project.

Our plan was to turn a cramped mews house into a comfortable home, combining small rooms, building a rear extension and revamping the layout of the three floors. Steve advised on the design and most effective ways to achieve our aims and guided us through the dire and lengthy planning process in Bristol. He considered the structural needs, providing detailed and precise structural plans for submission to Building Control. He is easy and pleasant to work with and, importantly, responds promptly to queries and problems.

We recently returned to Ascent Architecture having previously used them 12 years ago for a house extension and ground floor remodelling of our Victorian end-of-terrace.
This time the brief was for a new über double garage/party barn with garden-facing sun lounge with sedum roof to the rear. Also, a loft conversion and first floor remodelling.
For years we had been stumped trying to imagine how we could get the restricted hipped-end loft space to work and give us worthwhile space. Also, how to maintain access to the first-floor rear bedroom and without compromising the first-floor layout.
The designs that Steve & co. came up with were amazing: the huge garage is everything we wanted and the sun lounge is a perfect space for unwinding in the warmth of the afternoon sun, overlooking the garden. To the house they managed to magic two very large rooms and an en suite from the second floor, and by the masterstroke of running the new loft staircase alongside the party wall, minimised compromise to the first-floor bedrooms. All this while sympathetically respecting the Edwardian character of the property.
They guided us expertly through the entire process, resulting in highly detailed Building Regulations drawings that our builder was able to accurately price and build from.
We couldn’t be happier with the result. Fantastic architects that we would have no hesitation in recommending.
