We have worked with Baker Brown on our new home for the last 4.5 years through design, planning permission, build and commissioning. They have been the lead consultant in the design team and acted as our agent with the main contractor. In both these roles they were professional and diligent taking our lead as clients, but also working to keep the contractor onside for a positive result. Their strengths are definitely in design and their sensitivity to, and understanding of, the environment. On a large project, like ours, you will need good civil and M&E engineers alongside them. We have ended up with a beautiful home.
Finally, the whole team are also great human beings who I have enjoyed spending time with and doing the work with them. I would highly recommend them.

My wife and I are halfway through a large new build with the BakerBrown team and are thoroughly enjoying the whole process, thanks largely to the professionalism, thoroughness and approachability of Emma, Tom, Duncan and Rebecca.

I’m not sure too many people would still be feeling so positive at this stage of a large demolition and rebuild project - but we have been so well supported by BBA that it’s always felt like a brilliant adventure.

The whole team really seem to care passionately about helping us to realise our vision for the new house, taking time to explain the many different aspects of the project and guiding us through the sometimes bewildering number of decisions that have to be made. Their combined knowledge of the myriad options for building a modern eco-house has been invaluable, as has their willingness to find cost-effective solutions to unforeseen problems, mid-project changes and personal preferences that could easily have blown the budget.

We are confident that the end result is going to be incredible and would highly recommend BakerBrown to anyone lucky enough to be planning their own self-build project.

Right from the start our brief was very well interpreted and from then on the service was extremely professional. We were particularly happy with the support and advice around specifying fittings and finishes which can otherwise be overwhelming.

We worked with Tom Cuthbert and the team at BakerBrown to restore and modernise our home on the South Downs. We cannot speak too highly of Tom (and Rebecca) who were there for us with advice and support right up to project completion. Their knowledge of building in the National Park was crucial in obtaining planning permission, with only six minor and achievable conditions. Tom's design brought a draughty and uninsulated C19th farm worker's cottage into a warm and cosy home, amazingly achieving A grade energy efficiency; and rebuilt and extended the barn to create a soundproofed room for a concert grand piano, a studio and guest suite. As older adopters of an air source heat pump, we might all have benefitted from more M&E advice (there appear at the moment to be few experts and few qualified engineers in Sussex), but this is our only quibble.
