In January 2017 I had instructed a builder, architect and (a non BDI) structural engineer to complete a basement conversion. After just 3 days we suffered a catastrophic collapse, the house had to be partially demolished. This was due to neglect from the builder and insufficient instruction from the structural engineer and architect.

The builder's insurance admitted liability. We had to move out and I was left with the task of overseeing the reinstatement of my partially collapsed home.

After an extensive search of North-West Structural Engineers I decided that the experience and technical ability of BDI was what I needed. The website showed a great attention to detail and Nick's wide range of experience was apparent.

At a time that was probably one of the worst of my life I have to say that picking the phone up and calling BDI was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Nick and the team at BDI provided an exceptional service from start to finish of an 18 month process of reinstatement. Nick wrote an extensive tender document, tendered the work, liaised with insurers, managed the contractors and was a much needed voice of reason along the way.

Nick and the BDI team juggled busy diaries to attend regular site meetings and negotiate unforeseen hurdles throughout.

I would wholeheartedly recommend them for projects big or small.

Before this event I had ignorantly assumed that all structural engineers were cut from the same cloth. I learnt the hard way, make sure that you don't do the same!

Nick responded very quickly to our need for a structural engineer to examine our collapsing retaining wall in support of our insurance claim. As I required a load bearing wall removing and other structural alterations I engaged BDI to carry out a survey and provide me with the calculations and drawings needed to engage a suitable builder, and also of course for building regulation approval.

The package of information they provided was extremely comprehensive and will assist me in completing final building plans in order to receive quotations from suitable building contractors and also of course to satisfy local authority building control. Very professional, efficient and responsive.

I'm in the process of constructing a new build. Nick and Steve have been amazing - they've provided detailed designs in a timely manner and always available to offer good advice.

BDI provide professional indemnity which is essential if you need structural designs for an extension or new build. To my surprise, there are many structural engineers out there who operate without indemnity - its really not worth putting your home at risk.

I recommend these guys without hesitation.
