This is the third timber frame house we have built, but the experience with BE has made it the best. Apart from the main structure, the company also built a substantial cut roof, giving us vaulted ceilings in all the upstairs rooms. Their detailing was superb, particularly in things like creating an airtight structure involving all the joins and surfaces - including the roof and the first floor joists. They have given a lot of thought to design, where energy efficiency was a priority rather than just cost. They went to great pains to ensure that all the walls and weatherboarding were perpendicular. The work was done with care, and the crew were easy to get on with.

From the very first phone call James Cheeseman at Be Timber was a delight to work with. I went to see him to discuss my studio build and he patiently talked me through all the options. He was an excellent communicator and always returned messages and calls swiftly. His team of builders worked hard on site and were always happy to answer my many questions.I had full trust in them at all times. I used James and his team for a large Bungalow extension incorporating living room and kitchen diner with vaulted ceiling. James was extremely helpful from initial contact with specific and general project advice which assisted in overall design plans and cost savings further down the line. The timber frame was made and delivered on schedule during covid and was exactly as requested and in compliance with our Bdg Regs inspector. It was built by his team very quickly without any need for amendments, delays or hold ups and allowed for other contractors to commence on schedule. James always replied to enquiries with good advice and help which was appreciated by an amateur builder like me (!) and importantly, was the most cost effective timber frame solution I could find in the East and South East of England. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the timber frame, quality, build, service and cost. I have already recommended James to two neighbours and wouldn't hesitate to use again. Thanks again. Damian. This is the second project my company has engaged the services of James & BE Timber on and as always, a 1st class service from start to finish.

As a main contractor, the current climate within construction is posing more and more challenges in not just sourcing materials and their rising financial implications, but as a whole and working with structural timber frame, for us, is not only more efficient, but more environmentally focussed, it enables rapid progress over more traditional methods despite the lovely British weather.

We will continue to engage the BE timber team in on our projects due to their professionalism, timeliness and support to the wider project.

Excellence - Perfection – Superior service & delight to work with

We were looking for a highly insulated, fast build method for our single room extension. After considering SIPs very carefully we concluded that local builders were key to the success of the project and choose BE Timberframe after numerous informative conversations with James Cheeseman.

The title sums up what we enjoyed over a total of 25 working days to complete the entire extension build including electrics largely due to James’s knowledge, experience and references provided to us for other trades people, namely Jim Hammersley and his team completing the rest of the build.

Excellence - The BE Timberframe team [1 or 2 people max] was on-site for only 10 days over the shorter working hours in winter to install the prebuild steel-frame, walls and roof structure / facias as well the cladding. Everything fitted like a glove as it was engineered to the millimetre.

Perfection – his team on-site is working for James for more than 14 years and it shows. The cladding was minutely aligned over the corners, the internal extra insulation perfectly matched to the pre-build walls. One gets two insulation layers and still saves space in absolute depth compared to brick walls. The end-result is such a highly insulated room that only requires supplementary heating when outside temperatures fall below 5 degrees.

Superior service & delight to work with – James was personally involved all the way from start to finish. He helped the architect numerous times when it came to building reg refinements because we choose 4 metres of glass doors. We had decided for self-management as we were particular on the doors & skylights manufacturers. That meant managing dependencies, which were challenging during xmas/winter/Covid19 made it impossible to do too well. Yet, at no time felt I pressure from James and he worked calmly around the constrains whilst I knew he had other project commitments.

Overall, when questions came up, changes were requested and solutions had to be found James was there with excellent ideas and support at all times. A delight to work with him. Thank YOU!

Building our new scout HQ has been a long journey, being lead by people with very little experience of building projects.
