George gave us good notice of the start date and quote for the renovation of our smallest bedroom and Steve was there bright and early on the expected day and as long as it took to complete the carpentry to reconfigure the cupboard over the stair bulkhead, build a new bedframe and prep, paint and wallpaper the room. It was a tight south facing working space and though small, a fiddly job, during hot weather but Steve worked very hard throughout, paying great attention to getting the finish of everything just right. Both he and George are a delight to work with, and we trusted them completely to take as much care over our home as they would with their own. They are now firmly in our address book as the first option for any future building or decorating work we need doing.

George Birch and his team recently completed a total refurbishment of an Edwardian property for me. It had sadly fallen into quite a bad state of disrepair, but for George this wasn't a problem, but an exciting challenge.
From the outset I felt confident that I had chosen the best builder for the job. We worked together for many months. He had lots of practical as well as aesthetical ideas which updated, but retained the unique character of a period property.
In addition, his contacts in other trades were of the same mindset, and could be trusted to attend when required and to complete their work to a high standard.
George would like to return at some point to do some much needed hard landscaping in the back garden. I'm already looking forward to seeing what he plans!

Birch and Sons have finished our bathroom makeover. They fitted tiles all around, replastered the ceiling, laid new flooring, and fitted a new bath, shower unit, sink, bathroom cabinets, and worktop.

Birch & Son are really good and we would recommend them to anybody else in the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire area. They are friendly, hard-working, reliable, punctual and the quality of their work is excellent. We had two bathrooms renovated by them in June/July 2022 and subsequently went on to use them to do a 5 month rennovation (kitchen; air source pump; front room; in-built wardrobes; new electrics; new floors) in late 2024/early 2025, which has just been completed and is very high quality. They also provide excellent advice and really take the time to plan things before starting a project. They are also well-connected to other high-quality tradespeople.

George was on time, personable and really listened to what we needed to do. He revised his initial quote without any quibbles when we scaled back our initial plans and was most accommodating about continuing with a smaller project than initially envisaged. The whole team were consistently on time and worked conscientiously to a high standard to complete the work within a continuous timescale. They also brought in a trusted heating engineer who not only did needed work on a temporarily removed radiator but took time to give us very helpful advice on a heat pump very recently installed by a much bigger specialist company which was causing us concern. And they took the time to source replacement fixings for an existing gutter that required repair and came back to do this after the main job was completed and paid for. They have been the best building team we have used in many years- we hope to get them back for at least a couple of future projects we are planning.

They are truly family friendly, buying my 4 year olds hard hats, to make them feel at ease with the changes (large scale renovation). When unforeseen challenges occurred (with our old house) they showed the very best customer care and have followed through on every promise they made. The result is a beautiful family home that will last us for years. George was also exceptionally innovative with design solutions, spending 3 hours up front on a Saturday with measuring tape and graph paper to help us perfect the design up front.
