Brendan and his team have just completed repairs to the stonework and roof of our Grade 2 listed house.
We are more than satisfied with the completed works. Following a site visit and an agreement to proceed the repairs were completed promptly and efficiently. All the team were courteous, personable and take pride in their conservation work. The site was left tidy on completion.

We recently commissioned Brendan Teasdale Masonry Conservation Ltd on two projects within our village hall. The first was to replace a wooden lintel that was over 100 years old. The second was to re build a Georgian fireplace. As you can see by the photographs below the work was excellent and carried out to a very high standard. Brendan talked us through the project step by step and was extremely knowledgeable, putting our minds at ease and also coming up with suggestions, which we accepted. Brendan Teasdale has completed two jobs for us at our property. Both projects were in a bad way due to weathering, and most recently storm damage. It's a delight to see someone working with such skill and commitment to his craft. Brendan is very knowledgeable and can rely upon his team who are tidy, efficient and skilled. We derive daily satisfaction from seeing our side wall and gateway lovingly restored and fit to face another 100 years.

We live in an old stone-built fisherman's cottage (circa 1855) in the Conservation Area of the town. The front-facing external wall is built of sandstone, but had been covered with cement-based render. We wanted the render to be removed for two reasons: 1) to restore the house back to its former glory and 2) to cure a "spalling" and damp problem we were experiencing inside.

When choosing someone to do the work, it was important that it was someone who "understands" stone and can give the best advice. This was the primary reason why we employed Brendan. We wanted someone who would do the job properly.

Brendan and his workers were polite and friendly; and answered all the questions we put to them. Until the render was removed from the stonework, it would have been impossible to give an accurate quotation of any remedial work that needed doing. Brendan was able to give a worse-case scenario quote so that we could feel confident that we could proceed. Once the render was removed, Brendan was able assess the stonework and give advice about what to do about the damaged jamb stones around what used to be a doorway, i.e. whether to replace the stones or to repair them.

Brendan workers showed they had the experience of having done similar work before and worked hard and efficiently to complete the work on time. This included attending to any "snags" revealed by the removal of the render: for example, replacing a sub-floor ventilation air brick which had been covered by the render! They always left the site clean and tidy at the end of the working day.

Upon completion, my wife commented that it now "looks a million times better than it did before". Our neighbours have been impressed to such an extent that they are considering having their house done too. We have also lost count of the number of people who have stopped to admire the work, and the many people we know who have commented favourably.

We can already see the effects of the render being removed. The outside stone - which was initally quite damp and wet - is now dry. Inside the house, the stone also looks alot drier.
