Collaborative and imaginative throughout! We bought a sad 1970's house in an amazing location and Richard helped us to transform it into a modern, eco-friendly home that still attracts admiring comments from passers-by. He worked with us to make the most imaginative use of the space and the location, while working within the constraints of the conservation area. He guided us through Planning and ensured we had all the expert reports we needed. He listened to our views and adapted his designs accordingly, so that the finished product gives us joy every single day. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his practice to others.

We 1st approached Richard in 2015 via a recommendation from someone in our village. Richard was very transparent with his fees and design ideas and helped us achieve the design and build of a new house that far exceeded our expectations. Originally we only intended to have an extension!

After agreeing on a design Richard handled the planning process for us then we continued with his services to find and manage a developer through to completion which unfortunately fell into the Covid lockdown of 2020.

The whole process was fantastic and we now have a new build forever home that has exceeded our expectations.

We would certainly recommend Richard to anyone needing a architect in the future.

New to the area I looked at the website of Cutler Architecture and spoke to the boss. I explained we had just acquired a property in the area which required updating. That conversation in itself transformed our worries into hope and ultimately led to completion of a very successful contract. We did what you're supposed to do: invite a range of architects to come and quote for your ideas. One was dull as anything, showing pictures of boxy houses, another was really an interior designer more interested in the garden, and then Richard. He turned up in a LandRover reminiscent of the Brigadier from Dr Who, and said almost nothing for about 30 minutes as we walked about. I put forward my ideas, and he disagreed immediately. I knew then that we could do something interesting. For weeks, we argued about design features and aesthetics, about materials and effective use of space. We'd agree something and then something else would appear in the drawings, and so it went on. And it was worth it. It matters to Richard, so be ready to be challenged. It's what makes the difference between good architects, and great ones.

Richard, the principal architect in this practice, is surefooted in finding solutions and kept the project moving at the pace needed, with contractors and clients always confident he was on top of things. He has worked on two listed buildings for us - an Arts and Crafts house and a 'merchant townhouse'. His ideas and solutions were appealing and avoided difficulties with the planners. Both projects yielded great results.
