We were searching for an architect who specialised in residential extensions when we purchased our bungalow in West Hallam, Derbyshire in 2025. We found Stuart Collumbell at Extended Ideas through searches on the Internet with excellent reviews. We commissioned Stuart to work with us on a single storey side extension encompassing kitchen/ diner, main bathroom and en suite bedroom. Stuart worked proactively with us to create two alternative designs, one of which we selected to build, and also helped us through the Planning Application process. We would recommend Stuart and Extended Ideas to anyone looking to extend their home.

Stuart helped us with our design ideas for transforming our living area - presenting two ideas. One which looked to maximise our existing space, and one to extend. After deliberating about removing an old conservatory at our bungalow in Derby we decided we probably needed some architectural expertises into this. I contact Stuart and we arranged an initially visit.
We decided on a couple of design options after Stuart’s experience suggested a completely different idea in addition to ours . He listened to what we wanted and made suggestions as to how this could be achieved within our budget .
The actual 3D plans were concise and clear and we are in the process of obtaining planning through Stuart on an extension that we would never had thought of if we had not had his input. His communication and help throughout has been exemplary.

Googling on spec for an Architect in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Stuart of Extended Ideas seemed to fit the bill perfectly, and following a prompt appointment for an initial visit, soon created two different detailed plans for our kitchen and utility room redesign based on our subsequent discussions and thoughts. Having spent a while considering what we could do with our house, we decided that we needed the help of an architect. For us, we needed to be able to visualise the space.

The 3D design service from Extended Ideas was just what we needed. We got in touch and met up with Stuart. He was incredibly patient with us as we kept changes our minds, but you could see all along he was fully invested in the vision and applied at all stages his training and knowledge to best optimise the concepts .

He came to see us in West Hallam on multiple occasions as we went through different design options. We found the service to be friendly, well considered and in our opinion it was money well spent. It finally allowed us to focus on the ergonomics and usability of our house, which to be fair has never flowed correctly.

Sometimes you need someone who will look at it with a fresh perspective, and will point out the possibilities and push the boundaries.

Once we had our plans, Stuart applied for our Planning Permission and even represented us at committee hearing due to the size and potential impact on the Green Belt. It was approved!

For many years we'd been dissatisfied with the layout of our house and felt it had more to give, but we needed the help of an architect to bounce ideas off to help us see the potential. We contacted Stuart after seeing some of his previous work on his website.

Through the course of a number of visits to our home in Ashby de la Zouch, and phone calls Stuart was able to uncover all the frustrations we had with our property, and provide several design solutions to meet our needs. When we first saw these we were really impressed with how Stuart was able to bring his ideas visually to life for us.

Preferring one design above the other, with Stuart's help, through the course of a further conversation we were able to take the design further to one that met all our needs and we were extremely happy to move forward with.

Unfortunately personal circumstances a month later meant we had to put the project on hold for a while, but when we pick it up again we have our design ready to go.

We found Stuart after a Google search. After looking at his website we decided to enlist him to redesign our downstairs layout and add an extension to our 50's semi in Spondon, Derby.
