I hired Focus Project late last year to help us with a few small items for our light industrial move (namely the installation of a wash sink, wiring for a large appliance and an air outtake vent), Erickson at FPM quoted 50k for this basic work (which I felt was high but I hired FPM based on a referral from our leasing agent).

They proceeded to charge me $5900 for architectural drawings (of a single room with no walls) and $2500 for permit application and 'consulting fees'. Total $8400 before any work on the 50k of modifications had begun.

After we received the permits, I coincidentally began work on another renovation and found the architectural fees, permits, etc to be about 1/4 of what FPM charged me. I began consultation with a few trades people and soon realized how grossly overcharged I had been. I pulled the plug, hired my trades people and got the job done within weeks. Total less than 1/4 of the price that Erickson was going to charge.

I contacted Erickson about the $8400 I'd already paid, and asked for clarification on the total. He said it was because the project had a quick timeline (this 'surcharge' was not explained to me at any time previously). After some discussion, he agreed to refund $1500 off the architectural fees. Frankly, I thought this was still far too little (given I now understood the actual costs from trustworthy industry professional). I agreed to the refund and never heard form Erickson again. I've reached out to him and his office on multiple occasions and have never heard back, nor have I received a penny of my refund.

Had I not done further research I would have been grossly overcharged for the entire scope of work. I had hoped a local company would charge fair prices and not profit egregiously off a small local business. At the very least I expected that Erickson would have honoured his promise of a $1500 refund. Ideally, we could have resolved this professionally and I could have avoided writing this review, but sadly a lack of communication, professionalism, fair pricing and follow up on his promise leaves me here.

We used Focus Project Management to construct a medical clinic, from an existing pharmacy. They managed the entire project from obtaining COV permits, design and the entire construction process with the supervision of all trades needed. Weekly onsite feedback was always available. They were always conscious about the budget and construction timeline and the project was completed very close to the estimated date. Our project manager, Thomas, was always accessible, conscientious, polite and communicated all the relevant details effectively. Overall, we were very pleased with the services provided. The amount of time/stress saved, given that we knew Thomas was supervising closely, was invaluable.
