Simon and the team at Frame Technologies have been fantastic from the outset. Using them for our timber frame design allowed us to do the bits of the build that we were able to do ourselves and leave all the structure and bits we couldn’t do to them. We knew exactly what we wanted and they were immediately on board with our ideas. Simon and his architect quickly found solutions to any problems, even when it didn’t seem possible. During the design process they didn’t try to talk us out of anything, or say that anything couldn’t be done, and with no building knowledge I always felt 100% comfortable asking questions, however silly. They recommended other professionals, tradesmen and products. Simon was always friendly and made himself available. He seemed dedicated to the project and was regularly onsite to oversee the works. Our frame was up in just 11 working days and the construction team were extremely hardworking and polite. Any small issues that arose were dealt with within hours. I would highly recommend Frame Technologies – we have had an excellent experience and couldn’t have made a better decision. They have made the entire process a lot of fun!

My experience with Frame Technologies for my self build was faultless. They over came design difficulties including a large bi-fold window opening in a open plan space and a challenging roof angle to allow for my front door porch. Simon and Jenifer were flexible and understanding when we hit a site problem days before the frame was arranged to be built. I should also mention that their prices were very competitive.

We met Simon for the first time at the National Self-Build Centre in Swindon where he was on an expert panel covering different building materials, representing timber frames. He came across by far the most competent and was able handle the most challenging technical questions with ease. This translated perfectly when we chose Frame Technologies for our modern agricultural barn conversion in Worcestershire. The massive positives we found using Frame Tech: 1. Simon's vast knowledge of building was simply brilliant not just on the timber frame but on all aspects of the build. For each stage he understood the problems/issues and would come up with a quality solution. 2. Jennifer was fantastic when it came to finances. We had a delay sorting out our mortgage and all times Jennifer was patient, polite and flexible which was incredibly helpful in reducing the stress. 3. They are incredible responsive to all enquiries. No matter how trivial the question almost without exception I could pick-up the phone and immediately speak to Simon or he would call me back with the hour, the same over emails. You just don't get that anywhere else. 4. Quality product. This house is for my family so we didn't want something that wouldn't last or would have issues later down the line. Everything about the build was the best quality or the best method of construction, it never felt we were taking shortcuts out of convenience. 5. The price for the frame was comparable with other methods such as SIPS but the quality is premium throughout. We also ordered a few extras through Simon and when I checked he was much cheaper than I could source. 6. Service throughout - Frame Tech helped us throughout the build, supporting us even at foundation level making sure we had everything in place and suggesting things we should consider at a particular stage. Even once the frame was up, their aftercare has been amazing, checking we knew what we were doing for the following stages. Overall a fantastic experience with an awesome product at a reasonable price. I've all recommended Frame Tech to my brother and another friend who have similar projects lined up.

We have used Simon and Jennifer Orrells of Frame Technologies twice now for wood frame design and erection, first for a garage plus granny flat some years ago and then this year for our eco retirement home.

We decided to use them for this important project as they offered flexible, yet economic options for thickness of frame and level of insulation to achieve the kind of low U values we wanted. They integrated a considerable amount of steelwork within the design to achieve the desired open plan spans.

They were extremely helpful at design stage, suggesting design improvements not considered by our architect, and advising on possible construction techniques to achieve best outcome. A reliable partner during frame construction and ground floor foundation preparation stages keeping in close contact so that when the frame arrived on site it went up accurately in around 3 weeks. When a steelwork fabrication issue arose they quickly solved it by finding a local welder who could make the necessary adjustment.

There were regular follow up calls during roofing, cladding, flooring stages to ensure insulation arrived when needed and Simon attended to make a minor frame adjustment to ensure we got the open view we wanted through our double height kitchen walkway area.

Simon and Jennifer have since returned to site as the house neared completion to check we were happy with the whole process.

We are happy to recommend their services for anyone considering a high specification timber frame structure for their self-build, especially if they might need ongoing support throughout the project.

We first met Simon at the NHBC centre in Swindon and were immediately drawn to his extensive knowledge and very open style. Over the course of the next six months we developed our designs and nothing was too much trouble - as 1st time self-builders having someone who was happy to explain our options and help guide our choices was invaluable.
Ordering was straightforward, and everything was explained thoroughly, giving us confidence in the process. When the time came for our installation, Martin's crew were fantastic. Despite the mid February weather, lashing rain and driving winds, and a foot of mud on the ground nothing phased Carl and the team, and the frame went up smoothly in 10 days.
On several occasions since then Simon has been on the end of the phone with further help and advice, even after the final bills have long since been paid, and we have confidence that should any unforeseen issues we would be in safe hands.
