IDH completed an extension and full renovation of a ground and garden flat in the West End of Edinburgh. Throughout the project the ethos was always "can do" which is very refreshing in construction. When inevitable issues occurred solutions were offered and any problem dealt with quickly and effectively. There was a true team effort approach and I'd have no reservation recommending IDH. I enjoyed working with the IDH team and hope to do so again in the future.

Scott and Gary impressed me with their professionalism during the first quote visit; and were a straightforward choice for the contract award, following their second visit – they just seemed more clued-up than their peers.

Once work began, the IDH team could be relied upon to be on-site and making visible progress each day – their attention to detail evident in everything that they did. They were also prepared to go that extra-yard beyond their strict remit – the best example being their identification of an error in a third-party’s measurement of our windows, that (if it hadn’t been double-checked by IDH before they were ordered/built) would have set the project back weeks, and resulted in a lot of avoidable aggravation with the supplier.

This type of value-add was evident throughout the build. Gary gave us daily updates on progress and next steps, was quick to identify solutions to any problems that cropped-up, and was creative in terms of the options he suggested as design tweaks (most of which we adopted). He also came out in the middle of a Sunday night during a storm, to fix a bit of roof-covering which had come loose (it could easily have waited until the Monday). This attention-to-detail, coupled with the quality of craftsmanship shown by their tradesmen, ensured that the entire process of building our extension, was immeasurably more pleasurable than we’d expected it to be.

The fact that this was the case, was entirely down to Gary and the team. They were always courteous, approached things from our perspective rather than their own, were quick to offer advice – and treated us like partners, rather than clients, throughout. We could not be happier with the end-result - an open-plan living-room/dining-room/study area, with a floating-corner and platform deck – and the quality of the workmanship cannot be faulted.

The IDH team are a credit to their profession, and I would not hesitate to recommend them (again). ‘

I worked with IDH for the renovation of my Newtown flat. This included a full kitchen refurb, taking down a structural wall, replacing floorboards, raising the level of a large fireplace, fitting a new hearth, lifting flagstones, replacing plumbing, rewiring electricity and full decoration of the flat.
With so many horror stories of friends’ difficulties with contractors, I was concerned about finding someone reliable.
Gary at IDH came on excellent recommendation, and I could not have been more lucky to work with him.
From the original design, where he improved the engineers’ plans, through the works and all the way to the aesthetic finishings, Gary was a true ally helping me get things right at every step, offering suggestions, finding solutions, and coordinating the workers with boundless energy. He has a great team of contractors who delivered excellent work under his supervision, adjusting and perfecting till he and I considered things to be perfect.

As a result, the pace was fast and all the tasks perfectly articulated, to ensure no time was wasted in reaching completion.
I feel deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to work with IDH, and think that anyone working with Gary on their property would be very lucky indeed.

I had IDH do work in my business to adapt a shell of a building into a purpose built studio, with 2 large dance studios, changing area,, reception area, toilets and a kitchen. This work was carried out in a professional manner and always in agreement with all parties concerned.

The quality of the work is as you would expect from experienced builders and any issues were dealt with quickly. The workman involved in my project were tidy and worked well under deadline pressure.
