I was recommended KB2 through a Bristol architect I was using.

My site was an infill between historic buildings and fronting on to the busy Hotwell Road.

The build was complicated by a significant build-up of made ground in an area that was once a dockside location. Site Investigation found that the old building had been demolished to ground but that historic footings, rubble and estuary deposits remained below. The foundations had to be CFA piles and concrete ground beams on top which sat the steel frame.

Due to the complicated ground conditions, the planning conditions stipulated that additional approvals were needed to safeguard neighbouring buildings which sit on shallow foundations. This process involved additional engineering checks carried out by Arup acting on behalf of Bristol Council, whom KB2 had to liaise with.

Michael Humphries and later Tristian Pope & Ray Haughton all helped on designing the significant foundations for such a small site (they ended up as deep and the building was tall) as well as gaining permission to dig out into the Hotwell Road for foul water connections to the main sewer.

Absolutely unprofessional and inefficient. I'd spoken to a receptionist on Wednesday 22nd July to request an appointment and was told i'd get a call back that day or the following day at the latest.
Fast forward to the morning of the 29th, after hearing nothing, I phoned again and spoke to a different receptionist - explained id been waiting a week, when I indicated that wasn't great she just kept speaking over me telling me 'hang on a minute - were busy'...
When she put me through to an engineer called Mark, I told him the project start date and he told me i should have phoned a couple of weeks ago, but if they did help me they wouldn't want any pressure from me!! I told him the start date had been brought forward because my builder had a cancellation and if they'd called me back last week there wouldn't be such a time issue... he just wanted to argue so I took my business elsewhere.
All one of them had to do was say 'sorry we didn't phone you back' - and make an appointment. Its not that hard!!
