The Nancy Rothwell Building is undoubtedly one of the nicest and most modern spaces on campus. The design is sleek, the labs and lecture halls are top-notch, and it definitely feels like a place where serious learning happens. However, for everyday student life, it has a few frustrating downsides.

First off, it’s always busy. Finding a decent study spot can feel like a mission, especially during peak hours. The computer clusters, which should be a lifesaver for students trying to catch up on dissertation work or coursework, are often closed off for specific sessions, leaving those who actually need them scrambling for alternatives.

Then there’s the café. While the food is decent, the prices are anything but student-friendly. For a building designed for students, you’d think there would be more affordable food options, but instead, you’re left debating whether you should overpay for a basic meal or just starve until you can grab something cheaper elsewhere.

That being said, the Nancy Rothwell Building is still a great academic space with excellent facilities—it just falls short when it comes to being convenient for students who actually use it every day. If you’re coming here, be prepared to fight for a spot, bring your own food, and hope you don’t need a computer last minute.

In terms of infrastructure, it not only covers everything needed for an engineering education but also stands out from other university buildings with its numerous and widely available workspaces.

A new engineering building for UOM students studying engineering and material sciences.

The lecture theatres are very modern looking and spacious, which compliments the overall industrial-modern look of the engineering building itself.

My only complaint for now is that I could not get any data coverage while inside the lecture theatres which I would need in times where the wifi becomes unstable.

I couldn't give a final review of the building yet as it is still undergoing construction on the upper floors. My workshop sessions and classes are still mostly in the old buildings at north campus due to this.

I have to admit that I am really excited and looking forward to be able to use the new facilities in this building in full once they have finished migrating from the north campus. Hopefully that would happen by the next semester.

The building is pretty flawless, and great with accessibility, multiple huge elevators, staggered low and high work benches, accessible and gender neutral toilets around! The signage to the elevators could be improved a bit, especially on the ground floor, but other than that it's great!

If you like you buildings to be a cross between death star and food hall, this is the place for you. Want to be able to trace wires and pipes on their journey through the building? You're in luck as all of them are on display here. More concrete than Coventry city centre.....8/10
