Run for the hills when you see NJC! Hiring them (or him) was the worst decision of our lives. This review is a dire warning: Steer clear of NJC like a ship dodging a hurricane.

We hired him for a renovation, but what we got was a nightmare. Brendan, the owner, hired incompetent workers who renovated our house like a toddler with glue sticks, installed piped that would make our toilet doodoo go straight to the garden, and built walls that looked like they'd been through a war. Low steel beams, leaks, and warps - They messed up everything they touched.

As if the shoddy work wasn't enough, Brendan's blatant lies about finishing early added insult to injury.

I was about to have a baby, his constant string of empty promises left me sleeping with one eye open, terrified my baby would come home to a construction zone. A 4 month project very well became 1 whole year! To top it all off, by the time we were forced to terminate the contract (we had paid nearly 70% at this point!), EVERYTHING had to be ripped out and redone by a competent builder.

Don't risk your health, finances, safety, and sanity like we did. Choose ANY other builder besides NJC. Your sanity and bank account will thank you.

As our friends were, we were also overjoyed with the service provided by Brendan and his team. They were always there to help guide & reassure us throughout the whole project. The team were at extremely punctual, tidy & professional.

We have employed Brendan & his team for a number of projects over the last few years and have always been extremely happy with the works that they have completed. We recently engaged Brendan to complete a single storey extension on one of our rental properties. The quality of work was fantastic throughout the project. My experience with Brendan of NJC could not be worse. Steel beams too low, sewage pipes blocking what was supposed to be a vaulted ceiling, terrible drainage, large ugly boxing everwhere and leaking roof. It's all got to be ripped out and rebuilt at considerable cost. Brendan blames everything on Mark the architect, who he actually recommended. Turns out Mark is not a proper architect and he blames everything on Brendan. Brendan has had no Building Control Officer to inspect the works, which I have only just found out and have had to appoint the local authority building control officer to do regularisation. Brendan has not complied with any of the BC Officers requests for information. This has been going on for nearly 9 months now. He is holding a considerable sum of my money.

I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience with Nicholas James Construction, as the company's incompetence turned what should have been a 5-month project into a year-long nightmare, causing us to exceed our budget and endure an overwhelming amount of stress.

From the outset, there were alarming red flags that should have served as warning signs. Despite promises of a swift completion by Brendan, the reality was far from it. Critical tasks such as plumbing, electrics, plastering, and numerous other essential components were left incomplete, creating a hazardous environment for our family. There is so much I could include in this review but it will end up being a memoir. Suffice to say that the work was not up to standard and the sheer lack of attention to crucial details should have been a clear indicator to us of the company's incompetence.

As my wife and I were expecting our first child and temporarily residing with my mother during the construction, we were unfortunately susceptible to the continuous gaslighting from Nicholas James Construction. Brendan's unfulfilled promises and excuses only prolonged our suffering and exacerbated the overall incompetence displayed by the company.

The breaking point came when we had to hire an alternative construction (weeks after having our first child) team to rectify the multitude of issues identified by building control. It took an additional four months for the new team to address the inadequacies left behind by Nicholas James Construction and finally complete the project. This unexpected and prolonged timeline left us emotionally and financially scarred, an experience that no homeowner should endure.

In conclusion, my advice to anyone considering Nicholas James Construction is to proceed at your own peril. Don't be fooled by their promises and apparent confidence. Ask yourself why they are nowhere to be found on platforms like checkatrade and why they have glowing reviews on Google and Houzz. Our first hand encounter with their incompetence has left us scarred, both emotionally and financially. Save yourself the agony, seek out a reputable and reliable construction company, and spare yourself the nightmare that we endured with Nicholas James Construction.
