Chris and the team gave a very professional service when helping me through the process of extending into the attic. I've never undertaken a project nearly like this before - he was very good at tailoring his communication methods to a complete novice like me. Ultimately I wanted to bring my attic room up to a standard the building regs would be happy with and would allow me to advertise the house as such if/when I come to sell. That all happened, quite pain free. I'd recommend these guys to any first timer!

We engaged the services of Chris Marsden off the back of a friend’s recommendation in early 2019. Having just purchased our “Forever Home”, we wanted to assess the feasibility of creating a 3rd floor / loft conversion to provide us with an additional bedroom and storage space.
Before I instructed Chris, we had an initial meetup to do some fact finding and consultation. Even at this stage, I was immediately taken with his demeanor and attitude. As complete newcomers to the whole circus around planning, building control and architectural design, it was important for us to find someone who:
- Made us feel confident in their abilities,
- Was on our level and down to Earth,
- Had a genuine interest in our Project and didn’t just see it as another job/a project number.

Chris struck a great balance between being professional and capable, but approachable and obliging. He had a real passion for his work and immediately suggested some revisions to our design that were both practical and impactful.

The house purchase ended up not being 100% straightforward due several factors including our sellers experiencing some ill health. Because of this, Chris’ initial site visits, assessments and designs had to be performed in specific timeslots. Thankfully, nothing was too much trouble for him, and all required data was obtained despite a lack of flexibility and multiple restrictions being imposed.

Over the following months, Chris produced several designs with multiple revisions required and completed. Our appointed Project Builders commented on the accuracy and presentation of all documents and drawings issued by Plans2Extend, saying that they were the best they’d ever worked from. In addition, the Structural Engineers that Chris provided were of a similar high calibre. Keskin Consultants worked in tandem with Chris, my builder and our building inspector to agree on several instances of variation and changes to spec. Revised calculations and updated plans were supplied at reasonable cost and in a rapid fashion.

Our build was completed in November 2020, and we had an issue with the Council Planning Department nearly a year later. This was down to a change in the cladding materials that I approved with our builder after my hand was forced by shortages due to the CVOID19 pandemic. The tiles allowed under Permitted Development were completely out of stock across the UK, so we switched to render in order to weatherproof the property for Winter 2020. This variation required additional permissions. Chris completed an appeal on our behalf (for a small additional fee) and followed this through to a successful conclusion.

This work was over and above his official remit, but as I was suffering a period of ill health, Chris agreed to take this on. In my eyes this was a large cherry on top of an already award-wining cake. I would wholeheartedly recommend Plans2Extend and Chris Marsden’s service, commitment and professionalism to anyone requiring architectural design and/or planning advice or assistance.

The team have excellent communications, very knowledgeable about planning rules and their door is always open should I have any queries with my build.
