Having been delighted with Richard's upgrade of our staircase, we commissioned him to create an inbuilt wall unit in our lounge as part of the refurbishment programme.

Needless to say the finished oak unit is a masterpiece of design and craftmanship at an extremely competitive price.

As you can see from the attached photographs it has become the centrepiece of the new lounge and has met with rapturous approval from everyone who's visited.

Thanks also go to Paul Wardman our electrician who oversaw a total rewire in the lounge and installed the LED lighting in the unit.

Paul is a brilliant electrician, very professional, friendly and competitive. He has overseen all our electrical work since 2009!

Staircase - February 2024
We recently decided we needed to upgrade our very tired staircase. We invited quotes from a variety of specialists across the UK and were staggered at the ridiculous cost for a maximum of 3 days’ work i.e. Neville Johnson £8,500!

We had all but given up, but a chance conversation with some close friends suggested we visit, and look at their recent stair renovation, undertaken by Richard of RJ Joinery, Wakefield. Witnessing his craftmanship, alongside a glowing reference, we invited Richard to visit us and supply a quote.

We met Richard a few days later, just before Christmas 2023, and were extremely impressed.

All existing newel posts, caps, handrail, and supports were to be removed and replaced with genuine oiled oak, unlike a number of 'specialists' who were simply going to clad the existing 47-year-old inadequate staircase.

In addition, the open stringer would be replaced with oiled oak veneer ply. Whilst the closed stringers would be clad with oiled oak veneer ply.

Furthermore, to add a contemporary feel to the finished article, we decided to install glass panel infills with brushed steel clamps.

Finally, the treads and risers would be repaired, and put an end to the squeaky ascent to the first floor!

Richard had a busy schedule and confirmed he could start work at the beginning of February 2024, once our pre-arranged redecoration had concluded at the end of January 2024.

His quote promptly arrived, and we were delighted to engage a true craftsman at a highly competitive price, and a fraction of what Neville Johnson had quoted!

Richard is a perfectionist, thoroughly professional, diligent, punctual, and extremely polite - he loved our fresh coffee! Each day he arrived by 08:15 and left a clean and tidy house on his departure. The whole project was completed in 2.5 days, which is highly impressive.

We cannot speak highly enough of Richard, and the results speak for themselves. The outstanding quality of finish and attention to detail went well beyond our expectations. The attached photos show the project from start to completion.

We had a very creaky staircase which was fixed, then oak cladding fitted alongside new oak treads, spindles and handrails.
