Following a couple of days of stormy weather and rainfall I was dubious about leading a group of 10 on this usually beautiful 10 mile walk (literature says 9 but after 3 recces I'd say it's more like 10.5)
But we were blessed with dry weather .. muddiest walk I've ever done but the clydach river, woodlands , sprawling mountains with awesome panoramic views , 2 churches, burial chambers, interestingly placed stones makes for a fantastic walk. Not for the faint hearted as it can be challenging particularly after lots of rain .. but with a sturdy pair of walking boots, sticks and waterproofs you won't be disappointed at the end of this walk

Wooded river valley with steep sides. Nice walk along the riverside. Free car park. Footpath starts off with a firm surface but soon becomes muddy. Can be very muddy after rain. We were glad we were wearing walking wellies, walking boots wouldn't have been good enough to keep our feet dry.
There's a good 9 mile walk up the valley and back over the mountain. Take your own provisions and wet weather gear as it is often colder and wet on the mountain. Superb variety from woodland to open moorland. Fab.

Beautiful nature path with multiple little routes. There are small streams coming from the hill into the path as you delve farther and a lot of nettles, so be prepared. Free car park at the entrance, and a scenic little pub next to it as well.

I love Cwm Clydach! It’s an easy walk if you prefer it ( I’m disabled, but my scooter easily goes along the path) it’s a peaceful tree lined path, with the river running alongside and numerous little waterfalls. There are signs of previous industry everywhere if you’re interested in that. It’s also a good place for bird spotting . We usually do about 2 miles but there are much longer and more challenging walks. It’s particularly lovely at the moment , with the trees changing colour in autumn! You won’t get too muddy either.

Fantastic walk into this valleys mining history. You actually walk on the bed of the old steam line that used to take coal back down the swansea valley.

Nice easy access walk along a great looking, fast flowing river. Any birders looking for both Dipper and Spotted Flycatcher will get them here quite easily.
