The Queensferry Crossing

The Queensferry Crossing is a modern road bridge that spans the Firth of Forth in Scotland, United Kingdom. Located in Queensferry, East Lothian, it connects the towns of South Queensferry and Edinburgh.

This impressive structure, with an overall length of 2.7 kilometers, was completed in 2017 after being started in 2011.

The queen formally opened the bridge on 4 September 2017. In 1964, on 4 September, she had opened the bridge next door (Forth Road Bridge).

The M90 is the motorway that goes over the bridge. There are two lanes of traffic on either side of the pillars.

The bridge takes its name from a free ferry service that Margaret, queen of Scotland in the 12th century, provided for pilgrims to travel north to St Andrews.

Amazing structure and piece of engineering but during busy periods it just cannot cope with the volume of traffic so if you are travelling during these periods expect it to be very slow both on entry and on the bridge.

Impressive bridge, absolutely no idea why replacing a two lane bridge with a two lane bridge would ease congestion, great to replace the a8000 with a new bottleneck further down the road which is now longer than before.
