We used Tom and TJC Construction for a major house renovation and extension project; taking a largely untouched 1970's house, doubling the footprint, and turning into a beautiful modern family home. It was a 12 month job start to finish and came with all the challenges you would expect with a project this size (delays from southern water, the increase of building material costs, the British weather... etc). Throughout the whole project Tom communicated regularly and openly with us. We always understood what was going on, the reason for any changes or delays, and the plan for what was happening next. It was clear he had a close hand on all work being undertaken throughout the project and we have been impressed with all the tradesmen brought in throughout - all of whom work regular for him. The end result is brilliant - there is no such thing as an easy build project, but picking the right person to manage a project of this scale makes all the difference. I couldn't recommend Tom highly enough and the quality of the finish speaks for itself.

TJC construction finished a year long renovation on our house in June 2023. From the quote which was a detailed breakdown of costs, to Building Control and completion, Tom and his team were amazing, friendly, professional and hard working; including all Sundays and Bank Holidays, which was really refreshing to see. Tom listened to our ideas and always gave us the pros and cons of changes we made and was always willing to help achieve our vision. Both Tom and his team were also good at suggesting ways ahead and ideas from their wealth of experience. Our house looks fantastic with work completed to a high standard. Tom Coleman is a truly outstanding construction professional and a very decent guy. We would recommend him very highly. Tom led the project to renovate our Grade II listed thatched cottage, including demolition of the former kitchen / timber conservatory built in the 1970s and building an oak framed glazed gable end extension to the kitchen, installed a new kitchen, bathroom and did exterior landscaping. The workmanship was always of extremely high quality. The entire team were a delight to have onsite and they all worked very long hours. The contract pricing was not the cheapest but the quality and his engagement was worth the extra cost. Tom kept us updated every few weeks on extras required and the choices for materials and finishes. Tom is a perfectionist and loves problem solving. He is young, energetic, dynamic, hard working and hugely knowledgable. Tom runs a highly professional and growing business with many experts across building and construction services. Tom worked very well with the various specialist suppliers. We were absolutely delighted with the overall project and everyone who has visited has complemented the sympathetically extended cottage for its aesthetic design and wonderful build quality. We cannot speak highly enough of Tom and his team, and would be happy to speak to anyone for a reference. He is highly recommended.

I would highly recommend TJC after working closely with Tom on two different capital projects. Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital required a new bespoke Patient Admissions building. After tendering the contract we decided to progress with TJC. They offered clear pricing and timescales. Our board and architect were happy with the monthly progress. We often had projess meetings and TJC were happy to work around us and the needs of a wildlife hospital. After the works were complete we invited TJC to tender for a second capital project. Once again, after review their bid compared with those of the others we awarded TJC the contract to replace our old hospital roof. This was also completed on time and to budget.

Tom Coleman exemplifies the personal and professional integrity, patience, flexibility and pragmatism that has enabled our home renovation to have delivered an end result beyond our expectations whilst minimising stress on our end.

Some of the guys Tom uses for specialist jobs eg bathroom and kitchen fitting, decorating and joinery are also absolutely top of their game, so the finishing touches look perfect, which was important to us, but we wouldn't have found the right people on our own, so using Tom has given us access to the best guys for each job.

What a disaster. Tom seemed a nice guy when we met him, and inspired trust from us and so we selected him to build our extension. Tom was due to start construction, but we were alerted that he was ill, and were expecting a new start date. After he was supposed to have already started, Tom increased his costs by over 25%, and would not start work until we’d agreed to the new price. This was honestly a huge shock. It was a real ‘gun to your head’ moment. In the end we lost confidence in Tom. We lost trust, not knowing if he would continue to increase costs throughout the project, and we did not move forward with him. It was a pretty distressing experience.
