We chose Westcott & Son Construction to supply and build a large new balcony for us and it proved to be a brilliant decision!

They have an extensive team of skilful tradesmen to cover every aspect, every one of whom has been hard-working, tidy and friendly, never failing to clean up after themselves at the end of each day.

Martin, Andy and Jess have all been personally involved and really looked after us, in an accommodating and professional manner with great communication. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we felt we were in very safe hands!

We would strongly recommend them for their workmanship, flexibility, attention to detail and fairness. We would look no further than these genuinely nice people for any future projects!

Spending almost £400k on a large house build from scratch could be worrying but not for us when we used Westcott's to manage the whole build. From pre contract award, all the way through the build, to the after care and some follow up jobs they have been amazing. At all stages they offered very helpful advice, were hugely flexible and accommodating and always went out of their way to ensure a top quality job. Even on the rare occasion that something went wrong (as it will do!) they immediately acted to ensure it was resolved beyond our expectation. A real pleasure to contract with, a truly amazing finished job and such great bunch of people. Many, many thanks and very highly recommended.

We have worked with Westcott and Sons for almost two years. The whole team are friendly and fantastic. They have completely reconfigured our driveway and exterior of our home on North Hill and our courtyard, terrace and driveway are now safe and beautiful. For the last few months the team have been helping us restore a cottage on Bampton Street. It has gone from dingy run down and in dire need of repair to fresh and fabulous. We have found Westcott and Sons to be professional and trustworthy. The project management and administration is great and the team are approachable, flexible and hardworking. We cannot recommend this company highly enough!

These builders were hired to build a simple small farm house on plans/specs provided 15 months ago. We had many problems with this builder not following plans/specification and unsatisfactory/unfinished work including missing foundations, missing footings, foundation in the wrong place, very uneven concrete which they tried to level of with loose sand, cracks in concrete floor, 30-60mm uneven thickness screed (which moves in one corner) rather then min 80mm specified with holes in all the corners, cracking wall after changing specified blocks, unfinished block work above windows, installing softwood windows (arrived damaged) instead of hardwood causing long delays into the winter as had to wait a long time for hardwood replacements to be built, changed roof trusse spacing, wrong staircase ordered then led us to believe replacement would be fitted but never did which will now make it very difficult to fit ourselves, missing cavity closers because windows wouldn’t fit, gaps above windows, forgot to build in four architectural block features, not tying walls together, changing block wall for stud wall, different sized interior doors, wrong height interior doors, all exterior doors in wrong position (causing breach of planning), missing door cills, changed joist spacing causing problems with underfloor heating, wrongly laid insulation in loft and mortar allowed to fall in front of insulation forcing insulation away from internal wall, missing window boards, missing architraves, missing fire hearth, missing door liners, missing loft ladder, oak lintel installed to close to fire place (then removed and dumped on floor), blistering/peeling paint, leaking gutter washing off fresh paint, fresh paint being washed of walls in very wet conditions, plastering with no exterior doors in freezing weather, a number of marks/lines in render, some rendering not done at all, unfinished septic installation, fire vent in wrong place now causing problems decking and most recently the drainage not installed deep enough to name but a few, They would not visit site to discuss and when contacted we were met with “main percentage done” and “matter closed”. After going through the federation of master builders and hiring someone to act on our behalf due to accusations of rudeness and slander (which they then wouldn’t deal with solely because he disagreed with them), we got them back on site 3 months after they took last payment and abandoned site leaving the above issues, on site they continued to do more poor/not to spec work including bodged window boards, door liners and footings no way near drawing provided. No money has been returned and little has been put right. Even though we used a very experienced architect who designed a lot of the houses on exmoor, they seemed to think because of their superior construction knowledge they weren’t required to follow plans or use correct materials which we found particularly condescending. And now because of the ridiculous behaviour of their contracts manager we have little choice but to get a different builder to fix/finish these items as we seem to be going in circles with Martin Westcott and son. With the exception of the painters we were happy with work of the subcontractors (electrician arial guys and roofers etc).

Latest addition to problems with build we have now discovered that the rather expensive hard wood windows installed are held together with little more then double sided tape which is now peeling of windows both inside and out.

We used Westcott builders to plasterboard and plaster our kitchen as part of a full kitchen renovation. The skill and workmanship to overcome the previous attempts on a 1930’s council house was outstanding. The whole time we were informed of what was going on and what was needed to be done once the problems were uncovered that needed rectifying. Even though cutting plasterboard creates a lot of dust the cleanliness of the 2 that were carrying out the work was exemplary. All the work was carried to to a very high standard with great attention to detail. I would 100% recommend these builders for any project big or small.

Westcott and Son finished our new single storey house a year ago. The build quality has been very good and we are delighted with the completed house and the very high standard of the woodwork and general finishes which are everything that we hoped for.

We used Westcott & Son Construction recently for our two storey extension. From start to finish the process was straightforward and professional. We had contacted other local companies previously, however were let down by them not attending or attending and then not following up with a quote. Jess responded very quickly and set a date for a quote. Andy and Martin attended as planned and followed up with a detailed quote shortly after. We agreed a convenient start date for the work to commence. The guys on site were friendly and respectful, ensuring we were aware of the plans and keeping us updated as things progressed. They always left the site clean and tidy. Additionally, they went above and beyond with our son, who was so interested in the building work and would ask them continual questions. Special mention to Jess, Adam, Russell, Dan and John who went above and beyond to make the process as straightforward as possible.We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again for any future work and have recommended them to our friends already.

Excellent service. Had building works completed over past 3 months including walls removed, bifold doors fitted and 2 bathrooms fitted. All work, including plumbing, plastering, electricity etc was completed to a high standard. The workmen were friendly and reliable and cleaned up at the end of each day. I was kept informed and updated throughout the duration of the work. I thoroughly recommend Westcott.
