In 2016 we chose Pierre du Toit to produce a design for a new house that we were planning to construct in our existing garden.

I remember the clarity of his plans, sketches and 3D models made the design and planning phase an extremely straightforward and enjoyable process.

As construction began, Pierre continued to be hands-on and ensured we were always aware of any issues or amendments that were necessary. The SIPS frame was up in just 3 days in June and we moved in during the following February.

We remain delighted with the house that Pierre designed, and would happily recommend him to anybody lucky enough to be considering a similar project of their own.

“We had been discussing demolishing our house and building a new one for several years. We wanted to stay in this location and wanted a new house that would make us happy but had no idea how to proceed.

Pierre, principal of Zinc Architecture very quickly achieved a detailed understanding of what we wanted and critically what was important to us for our new home. This was a revelation because until Pierre hand-held us through the process, we were unable to ‘vocalise’ any clear picture of what ‘good’ looked like. He then designed a truly beautiful building which has delivered on all our aspirations.

They used digital modelling and 3D printing to ensure that we fully understood what he was suggesting, which made it very easy to approve the key stages as we went along. We were fully engaged and informed throughout. From the very beginning it felt like we were designing our own home. At no point did our lack of knowledge or expertise interrupt the feeling that it was our design and as a result we have moved into a house that is everything we hoped for.

Pierre helped us to consider how we wanted the house to be built and what materials to choose. Although we had some concerns at the start, we selected a SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels) build, having considered the options and working through the costs, risks, timelines and benefits of the multiple choices with Pierre.

He was exceptional at working through the intense levels of detail while remaining focused on the big picture goals and the key objectives.

Pierre is a confident and accomplished Architect, exceptional Designer and talented Artist.

We would strongly encourage anyone, considering the significant investment in time and money of building a new home, to engage Zinc Architecture.

I'm very pleased with the service provided by Zinc Architecture. It's really been more of a partnership with Pierre. He has listened to our needs and worked with us to optimise the design to suit budget, time and the constraints of our existing plot. Pierre's suggested subtle but influential change proposals and has helped us to maximise the benefit of our investment.

Intelligent use of CGI and models helped us to finalise the concept. Pierre's attention to detail is exceptional. With a reductionist design like ours the details are essential to the end product and Pierre's input ensured that they were just right.

Pierre and Jonathan have provided essential input through the planning as well as the build phases. We flew through planning with no issues. Pierre's help with identifying contractors through his network and regular attention on site to ensure work was completed to the required standards was invaluable. Inevitably, with a renovation, we have had a couple of discoveries along the way and Pierre's prompt attention has allowed us to tweak as needed, without compromising the end product.

If I have another opportunity to undertake a building project, I will call Pierre straight away.
